An ordinary woman with an extraordinary story

Ponderings

What is God up to?

October 1, 2012

The story of Queen Esther is probably my all time favorite Bible story.  I’ve loved it ever since I was a little girl and my mom gave me a pop-up book of Esther.  When you opened it, the pages became a palace, with little characters that you could move around while you read the unexpected plot of a little orphan girl that suddenly finds herself in the palace attempting to become the next queen.  Who would have thought?

Esther didn’t intend to be orphaned, of course, and she didn’t have her sights set on becoming queen either.  In all likelihood, she was forced from her home with the other beautiful young girls of the city, just because the king wanted a new  queen.

And yet it happens…she is chosen as queen!  The plot thickens as time goes by, and the reader discovers that God had placed Esther in the right place at the right time so that she could influence the King and save the people of Israel from a vicious man that wants to kill them all just because he is mad at one of them.  (Wow, that’s a hot head, for sure!)

It’s a delightful story, full of twists of plot… the bad guy loses in the end (that’s my favorite part)….and the little girl lives happily ever after.

A delightful story.  Really?  A child loses her parents and then is stolen from her adopted home….  How can a story like that become good, even delightful?

Because we know the end of it!  We can read the whole thing and see that God did something miraculous through Esther.

How can a horrifying story have a delightful  ending?

Well, because we serve a living, merciful, loving, kind, gracious God.  It might have seemed to Esther that God had abandoned her when her parents were killed.  It might have seemed to Esther that God had abandoned her when she was taken away from her adopted home with her Cousin Mordecai.  But the truth was not as it seemed.  God was up to something…..

So when life seems like God has abandoned you……remember that you can choose to serve the same living, merciful, loving , kind, gracious God that Esther served.  In time, you will see what His plan is.

He is always up to something.  🙂

Lora,
Amazing comparisons in the bible that GOD does with our own lives that can help us carry on. What a great example of how the LORD uses horrible things and turn them into delightful endings for the kingdom of GOD. May GOD contiune to carry you through life and use you to the places where at the end of your story you and many others are able to see an ending only GOD could create. May GOD bring that delightfulness into your life picture . Thank you for sharing. GOD bless

Lora is a wonderful friend of mine, of everyone’s..I believe. I feel like it helps Lora that her children & husband have become part of our hearts.Sometimes when you are so tired or sad and just don’t want to go on anymore we then look at someone like Lora & see her rise out of the ashes that she was able to do that indicates that it CAN be done, it’s not just about that person’s life it just means IT”S POSSIBLE.As long as she’s willing to keep taking the breath, she helps other take that next breath also. As I have also said…just breathe…don’t forget to just breathe! Lora has had to learn a new sense of living. She went from not knowing who she was anymore to discovering it now.She is a mother (still) in more ways than we can fathom. (Whatever the ashes are in your life or your particular loss or experience that there is a way through and a way out of it-Oprah) Bill Cosby & his wife lost there son in an accident yrs ago and the wife was talking to oprah about the waves of pain and she would be doing something that had nothing to do with that loved one but just all of sudden a wave of pain would just wash over her randomly and so this woman would just stay busy but instead she had discovered that the only way to get through is to walk through the wave and fire..the heat of the pain. Let’s remember that just because Lora is doing all of this does not mean she has stopped hurting…that doesn’t go away it just doesn’t but what she IS doing is saving lives and she might not know the extent of that for she is humble like that.Imagine the weariness she must feel and reliving the tradegy over and over again. But now sharing it and bringing that into our hearts so that we can intercessory pray for her in such great numbers.God knows what she needs and He is doing that. From her loss will arise something very powerful for the rest of us out there…I believe that Lora sharing her story will save countless lives! Lora, I told you that I would let you know at Sunday school what I had seen on tv on an inspirational show: some people had written in to oprah on Oprah’s lifeclass inspirational show stated about an impact a certain woman had had on them..christine mcfadden and her tradegy…LORA IMAGINE THIS: THAT THERE COULD BE PEOPLE AT YOUR EVENTS THAT ARE SUICIDAL AND JUST WANT TO THROW IN THE TOWEL OR EVEN JUST A REALLY BAD DAY AND/OR GRIEVING AND TURNING FROM GOD FOR HE IS THE ONE WE LASH OUT AT TO BLAME AND YOU ARE LETTING THEM KNOW THEY ARE NOT ALONE,THEY THINK THAT IF YOU CAN GO ON THEN THEY CAN GO ON,THAT WATCHING YOU TELL YOUR STORY THAT THE CLOUDS HAVE PARTED AND THE SUN IS SHINING DUE TO YOU ARE SPEAKING AND HOW WE ARE ALL TAKING BABY STEPS TOGETHER.NOT A SINGLE DAY MIGHT GO BY AFTER YOU SPEAKING SOMEWHERE THAT THOSE THAT NEEDED TO HEAR YOU DON’T TAKE ANOTHER DAY FOR GRANTED. OUT OF THE ASHES OF YOUR FAMILY SOMETHING POWERFUL HAS RISEN TO HELP OTHERS FIND THEIR INNER STRENGTH-GOD. HE IS THE ONLY WAY AND THE ONLY TURN NEEDED IN THOSE TIMES OF THE WORST PLACES AND SPACES TO BE.ONLY GOD CAN DO ALL OF THIS IN US.ONLY HE CAN CREATE THE WILL TO GO ON AND ONLY HE CAN DO IT IN A WAY THAT IS UNEXPLAINABLE AND OTHERS WANT TO FEEL THAT TOO. LOVE YOU LORA & THAT IS WHY “YOU”. HE HAS CHOSEN YOU OUT OF YOUR ASHES, TO SAVE YOU AND NOT LET ANYTHING BE IN VEIN.YOU HAVE SAID “WHY” DID HE SAVE YOU…WELL, THESE ARE MANY OF THOSE REASONS. SO THE NEXT TIME YOU SPEAK IMAGINE IN A NEW WAY THAT THERE MIGHT BE SOMEONE OR NUMEROUS PEOPLE IN THAT PLACE LISTENING TO YOU THAT YOU GAVE THEM A REASON TO GO ON AT LEAST FOR ONE MORE DAY BECAUSE THEY SEE THAT IF YOU CAN DO IT THEN WHY CAN’T THEY. I LOVE YOU…ENOUGH SAID MY DEAR,DEAR FRIEND.

Betty I love all you said about Lora. I haven’t known her for too long but I know for sure that since my husband and I have had our grief that Lora has been adopted into our family for sure. I know she was a part of it before, but our bond has increased exponentially because of it. Also, the one thing that came to my mind after reading this story was the song If You Want Me To by Ginny Owens. This song speaks volumes to me and I try my best to live it. If you haven’t heard it before please check it out. It’s about going through the fire and storms in life if God wants us to knowing he will always be there to comfort and love us.
